I used artistic behavior, such as creating original art. I incorporated my own ideas in this project because I thought about flowers. However, I wanted to make something more metaphoric than simply flowers. I decided on making wilting flowers and my instructor suggested I make something they can stand in, so I made a vase. I used two videos to combine my inspiration with others. My ideas happened on purpose. I reflected and discovered myself in my art work. I learned that to every person, there are layers. What one person sees is not what's really underneath. Many people see roses as beautiful and perfect, but with my artwork I strive to convey that all that glitters is not gold. It means that people are not what we think they are, and we need to perceive what others go through and develop empathy. I developed my artwork by applying the videos that inspired me to make a plan. Lastly, I created my piece and will continue to put it in the kiln and glaze it. I communicated through my work because I want people to develop empathy and realize that people that seem okay are not, and that they are breaking inside. People need to have fellow feeling, and learn that not everything is about them. I got inspired to make an earthwork by scanning the materials surrounding me. I found the rose bushes outside of my house and realized the petals that have fallen are not being used, they are being wasted, so I decided to put them to good use. I thought making a heart would be artsy and creative. In the developmental stages, two friends and I gathered as many petals in good condition on the ground as we could find and arranged them as such. We started out too small, so then we gathered more to make a larger array. I wanted to use some petals that are not all perfect and in good condition because it represents that human hearts, no matter how nice, are never fully pure. I explored new mediums and did something new that I've never done before. I developed art making skills by gaining skill with familiar materials. As mentioned before, I have seen these petals frequently and always wondered if they could be used for good, so I made something. I collaborated in the art community by asking my two friends to help me. I reflected and analyzed my art by refining and changing the final piece along the way. The purpose was to stray from the original purpose a little bit, and show more ambiguously that all good things never last by not preserving my art piece for use. My inspiration for this project was I thought of pigs, and how I love them. Pigs are awesome, so I chose it. My development was tricky, because I didn't know what I was doing. I have never done a styrofoam before so this was new for me. I colored it pink because pink is the color of pigs. I used artistic behavior skills, and I created original art. It came from my brain, not anything I've seen before. I took risks by cutting the styrofoam before I fully knew what I was doing. I communicated through my art by using personification and making it come to life. It was definitely a learning experience, and I think I need more practice for me to be good at it. Our group was inspired by one of our group member's abstract art piece from earlier in the semester. We used it as a template or a reference in our abstract painting. Our development of our piece was a process, it was certainly not easy from the start. We encountered many roadblocks, and we didn't tackle them head on, but eventually we learned how to collaborate with each other. One of the artistic behaviors we exhibited were #3, 'We Solved Problems.' As a group, we ignored what each other wanted to contribute in the project, but we somehow came to a consensus at the end. We learned that making a project combining all of our ideas would make the best painting! Another artistic behavior we showed was #7, 'We Took Risks.' All of us were a little skeptical about this step, we liked to be in control and have structure. We learned to let go and just have fun with it, using textures and splatter paint, as shown with the red and greenish dots. We used the element of space, alluding to negative space, where the blue line continues even after it is covered up. Lastly, we used #5, 'We Observed.' Mostly me at first, because m group members were hesitant to let me contribute, but then they stepped back and observed what I could bring to the table.
